Making Early Child Education Count
Making Early Education Count was a workshop held for early childhood education providers. Attendees were able to choose from four breakout sessions: Marketing for Childcare Programs, Addiction Prevention, Quality Matters Most, The Power of PEER Training (Level 1). In between session, providers were able to visit with local and state agencies, including SPARK, Building Blocks, INAYEC, Indiana Housing and Community Development, Office of Early Childhood, Indiana Family and Social Administration and Out-of-School Learning. During lunch, Sarah Broady spoke on the importance of Safe Sleep, having lost her six month old daughter to an unsafe sleep environment. Plans are being made for a similar workshop held for Align’s southern counties this summer. The workshop was sponsored by Align Southern Indiana.
Play is Learning
Harrison County Library Corydon held a Play is Learning workshop for caregivers and children, age 5 and under. During this time, children enjoyed playing with blocks while caregivers were shown how those activities foster the child’s mastery of the age-appropriate math skills as defined by the Department of Early Learning. Each child left with a book containing further activities to increase math skills, using materials often found in a home. Additional sites for this workshop are being planned for Clark, Floyd, Scott and Washington counties. There will also be future Play is Learning workshops focusing on additional Department of Education Early Learning standards. Event was sponsored by Align Southern Indiana and led by Building Blocks.
